Remedy In The News: Designers on the Evolution of Games, What Indie Games Need, Attitudes to AI, and an Alan Wake Retrospective [UPDATED]

Something a little different for your Saturday evening. Over the past few months, we've read a number of Remedy-themed articles which walked the tightrope of being too important to ignore, but swallowed up by so much happening at the time. For this post, we've collected all of those articles and interviews up for one mega reading list for the weekend.

The list covers a long list of topics including how to best support indie developers, AI in game development, the evolution of games as art, and a retrospective on Alan Wake

We Asked GDC Award Winners What Indie Developers Need the Most, Here’s What They Said
Inverse

“...indie developers felt the harrowing issues of the video game industry just as keenly as anyone – from a lack of funding to issues of even getting their game discovered in the first place. With that in mind, Inverse had a chance to talk to the winners of this year’s Game Developers’ Conference and Independent Game Festival Awards. Despite the rampant innovation in the indie game scene, we asked them what the industry as a whole could do to get indie developers more support – and there were some obvious trends that emerged.”

Bloody Disgusting’s 10 Most Anticipated Horror Games of 2025
Bloody Disgusting

“FBC Firebreak enlists you — alongside two friends — in the titular bureau’s emergency response unit. Alan Wake 2 - Night Springs & The Lake House | Games of the Year 2024
GameInformer

“It's been over a year since I fell down the Remedy rabbit hole, and I'm happy to report there's no end in sight. Since the launch of Alan Wake 2 in October 2023, I've played nearly every game in Remedy's catalogue, in some cases more than once (I'm lovingly looking at you, Control and Max Payne 2). All those wonderful games left almost no space for anything else this year.”

One year later, I faced my fears to finish Alan Wake 2 and it changed my perception of survival horror
GamesRadar+

“I'm surrounded by shadows in Alan Wake 2. I grip my PS5 DualSense controller for dear life, as though I'm actually holding the torch that acts as Alan's first line of defense against the dark entities. I can't tell which of these silhouetted figures will actually attack me, and which will simply fade away when I shine a light on them, but if I've learned anything about the Dark Place by now, it's that you can never trust what you see. I'm constantly on edge as I inch further into the theater hall of a cinema; acutely aware of the tension freezing every muscle in my body. I've just changed the scene using Alan's plot board, and the sight of shadows filling theater seats fills me with dread. I barely have any battery left to fight against them, but I need to reach the stage ahead to progress. There's nothing else for it. I have to run.”

The Alan Wake Retrospective: A Psychological Thriller for the Ages
Rely on Horror

“When Alan Wake was released in 2010 by Remedy Entertainment, it wasn’t just another horror game. To me, it was a novel experience. A meticulously crafted psychological thriller that combines elements of horror, mystery, and action. All wrapped in a bow with an atmosphere that echoed the works of Stephen King and David Lynch. With its small-town setting, eerie atmosphere, and unique storytelling mechanics, Alan Wake quickly developed a cult following. Remedy had originally intended the game to be open-world, but after years in development, they shifted gears to a more linear experience that ultimately allowed for tighter storytelling and more intense pacing.”
