The 15th Annual Rookie Awards have officially begun! The annual contest puts the spotlight on aspiring and emerging talent in creative industries with an opportunity to win feedback, mentorships and tools of the trade. As the name suggests, the target audience is rookies, with a requirement that entrants have less than one year of professional experience in their chosen category. As a result, the contest states that “students, self-taught artists, hobbyists: all are welcome”.
The event covers a range of different disciplines, with eighteen open categories. These categories include 2D and 3D animation, Concept Art, Game Development, Visual Effects, Architecture, Web Design, Production Design and more. You can also submit your work as an individual or as part of a team, building films or games.
With a wide category list, it also requires a strong judge list. For 2025, there are 123 professional developers on the judging panel, with some familiar names. On the list are a number of Remedy developers including Miro Vesterinen (Head of Environment Art), Raja Ghosh (Senior Environment Artist) and Tomislav Spajic (Senior Environment Artist).
Remedy is also offering two virtual mentorship opportunities with Raja and Tomislav, “Each mentorship will be conducted virtually over four weeks, with one-hour sessions held weekly.
