Remedy Celebrates International Women's Day In New Video, "We Stand On The Shoulders Of All Women Who Came Before Us"

For International Women's Day, Remedy has released a short video featuring six amazing developers. In their own words, they talk about what the occasion means to them, and what words aspiring game industry professionals to carry with them.

International Women's Day has been celebrated yearly, in some form or another, since 1909. It found its home on 8th of March in 1910 and was later adopted by the United Nations in 1975. Originally a political movement, it's now a day to commemorate inclusivity and the achievements of women across the globe and to reflect on how far we've come and how we have to go in the pursuit of equality.

The short is called "We stand on the shoulders of all the women who came before us" and features Vikorija Dola (Gameplay Design Trainee), Veronica Redlaff (Junior Rigging Artist), Rebecca Richards (Senior Level Designer), Marija Šumarac (Dialogue Designer), Elina Sievänen (Rigging Artist), and Camilla Taipalvesi (Wellbeing Manager). You can check out the video in full, and a transcript, below.

Vikorija Dola (Gameplay Design Trainee): For me, International Women's Day is a beautiful day to celebrate our women's unique qualities and I think it's very important because for the rest of the year it gets forgotten a lot.

Veronica Redlaff (Junior Rigging Artist): My message to all my fellow women in the games industry
would be: be ambitious, take that risk, start that project, send that application, just pursue your passions and all the support you need will follow along the way.

Rebecca Richards (Senior Level Designer): When I think about what International Women's Day means to me, it means there's been a lot of people that came before me that fought really hard so that I could do something like this, like make video games all day. It is probably the coolest thing I could ever do, and I can do it because so many others people fought hard and worked hard to make sure that I could.

Marija Šumarac (Dialogue Designer):  Don't give up. I'm a woman in audio, and sometimes was quite
hard sometimes. I had situations that people look down on me just because I'm a woman. So, I really wanted to get into the gaming industry and I did it. If I did it, you can do it.

Elina Sievänen (Rigging Artist): Women have always been part of the game industry. Women have
always been in highly technical roles. I've been in games for over six years and there are so many fantastic women whose shoulders I stand on, and I personally want to be there encouraging the future generations of game developers.

Camilla Taipalvesi (Wellbeing Manager): Others have paved the way for us to be in the game industry. So, don't hesitate when applying. Join the legacy. Use your voice and help create diverse games in diverse teams
