Happy New Year! We're now officially in January, the longest month, and so it's the perfect time to take some time out, get some tea, and to look back at the past tweleve months. 2024 was packed with a lot of weirdness and a lot of surprises.

Alongside the release of the two Alan Wake 2 expansions; Night Springs and The Lake House, Remedy also revealed FBC: Firebreak at Xbox Partner Preview, due to launch later this year. We got treated to a series of developer diaries, behind the scenes interviews, and saw Alan explore new adventures in Dead By Daylight

Here's what happened across those past twelve months...


2023 - Year In Review
2023 was a packed year. Alongside the release of highly-anticipated Alan Wake 2, Remedy changed their iconic logo, and the Old Gods of Asgard released their debut album just days after performing at The Game Awards.


January

1st January - AW2 Behind the Scenes Tidbits
During the holidays, both Ilkka Villi and Markus "Captain" Kaarlonen shared new Alan Wake 2 behind the scenes teasers. For Villi, it was the makeup for Zane, and for Captain, the editing process of Herald of Darkness. [Photo: Ilkka Villi]
#JesseJanuary was back for its third year and the community definitely showed off their talent. There was also support from 505 Games as they shared fan activities and creations. [Artwork by @Raider_Warrior]

3rd January - Shoutout: Emma's Cosplay Guide
To kick off the start of the year, Emma (aka Dogtor Who / The Dogtor) created an in-depth cosplay video guide for Dr Casper Darling. In the piece, Emma also examines their own outfit, how it evolved, and how they hope to improve. 

In early January, the nominations for the New York Game Awards were announced, with Alan Wake 2 named as being in the running for "Best Writing", "Best Music", "Best World", "Best Acting", and "Game of the Year".

In an interview with Digital Foundry, Tatu Aalto and Antti Kerminen explored the technological side behind Alan Wake 2, from mesh shaders vs primitive shaders to the team's approach to ray tracing.

BeHaviour Interactive and Remedy announced a collaboration which would see Alan Wake step from the Dark Place and into The Fog, as part of a new chapter coming to Dead by Daylight

In mid-January, websites began reporting on a trademark filed by Remedy Entertainment for "FBC: Firebreak".

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences announced the finalists for the 27th Annual D.I.C.E Awards, with Alan Wake 2 nominated across eight categories.

In January, Poets of the Fall, the real-life band behind the wonderful Old Gods of Asgard, released the official lyric video for The Sea of Night, one of the additional tracks created exclusively for Rebirth - Greatest Hits

Destructoid's Eric Van Allen had the unique opportunity in early 2024 to interview both Sam Lake (Creative Director at Remedy), and Poe on their epic Alan Wake 2 collaboration, This Road.
BBC Radio 3's Sound of Gaming featured an interview with Petri Alanko on his return to the Alan Wake series. In the podcast, they also talk about how Quantum Break's soundtrack stands above from the rest for him. 

For the GDC Awards 2024, Alan Wake 2 was listed as a finalist in "Best Narrative", "Best Technology", and "Best Visual Art", with an honourable mention for "Game of the Year".

News emerged that Take-Two, on behalf of Rockstar Games, had filed in opposition to Remedy's new logo, last autumn, on the grounds of "likelihood of confusion".

With the launch date drawing closer, Behaviour Interactive released a new Spotlight Trailer exploring Alan's addition to the game and what unique perks he brings to the experience.

A year after Sam Lake's cover feature, Pelaaja's Janne Pyykkönen followed up with the Creative Director as part of the Pelaajacast Extra. The conversation focused on Alan Wake 2, particularly the "We Sing" chapter. (English translation available.)

In a new interview, Ilkka Villi (Actor, Alan Wake) spoke with Behind The Voice about returning to the role ten years after his debut, lip-syncing with Matthew Porretta, and The Game Awards.

At the New York Game Awards, Alan Wake 2 won "Best World" with Melanie Liburd winning "Best Acting" for her performance as Saga Anderson. Both awards were accepted by Sam Lake on behalf of Remedy and Liburd.

25th January - Algeria Game Awards 2023
The first ever Algeria Game Awards, established by Just Play It, was a major night for Remedy, with Alan Wake 2 winning an incredible NINE awards.

In a special outing, the live-action team at Remedy recently held a premiere screening of the short film at the Kino Laika, a newly opened cinema based in Karkkila, Finland.

26th January - Arab Game Awards 2024
It was a fantastic night for Remedy with Alan Wake 2 accumulating an impressive eight awards, including "Best Game", "Best Story", "Achievement in Directing", "Outstanding Performance" and "Best Horror Game".

30th January - Alan Wake Joins The Fog
Alan Wake joined Dead By Daylight's league of survivors in Tome 18: REVISION! After articles, interviews, and previews paving the way towards the big day, Behaviour celebrated the launch with a special Alan Wake-themed livestream.

In late January, NAVGTR revealed the shortlist for their upcoming awards ceremony, with Alan Wake 2 nominated for "Game of the Year", "Graphics, Technical", "Song, Original or Adapted" and "Writing in a Drama".

A new Alan Wake 2 update allowed players to jump back to specific chapters, and added a new accessibility option which tuned down the jump scare effects.


February

4th February - The Sudden Stop Turns Twelve!
In 2024, we turned twelve! Thank you for supporting us throughout the years. We really appreciate you!

6th February - Tencent Signs Kestrel Contract Amendment
In a press release, Remedy announced that they had signed a contract amendment for "Kestrel", formerly known as "Vanguard". The partnership change delayed the reporting date for Q1 2024 review.



8th February - Alan Wake 2 Update 1.0.16
A new Alan Wake 2 update saw fixes to reported game crashes, difficulties accessing notes, missing lighthouse keys, and an issue regarding a magically appearing crossbow. 

Old Gods of Asgard was back with special album, Herald of Darkness - Bonus Versions featuring the Complete Edit, Instrumental, No Lead Guitar, and Instrumental + No Lead Guitar.

13th February - Rose Marigold Joins Dead By Daylight
During their Tome 18 livestream, Behaviour Interactive revealed that both Rose Marigold and Alan Wake (Bright Falls) would be joining the game. Both would have extra voice lines provided by Matthew Porretta and Jessica Preddy.

14th February - Remedy Shares "Love Letter" Dev Diary
Remedy shared a sneak peek into Alan Wake 2's development, a new dev diary. Originally created for the launch party, the video is described as a "love letter" to the game.

14th February - Gaming Memories w. GamesRadar+
For Valentine's Day, GamesRadar+ asked thirteen developers, including Clay Murphy (Principle Writer) and Kyle Rowley (Game Director), from studios across the world to share the video games that led them to fall in love with gaming.

15th February - Alan Wake 2 Wins D.I.C.E. Award
By the end of the night, Remedy and Alan Wake 2 took home the award for "Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction", a prestigious award with tough competition in the category.  

16th February- Alan Wake 2 Sells Over One Million Units
In mid-February, Remedy posted a press release announcing that Alan Wake 2 had sold 1 million units by the end of December 2023, and 1.3 million as of February 2024.

18th February - Behind the Voice Talks to David Harewood
A Remedy fan at heart, Harewood talks about the last-minute casting offer, his love for Max Payne, what it was like acting on the talk show set, the mysterious nature of Mr Door, and fan theories in a new Behind the Voice podcast episode.

20th February - Lake at Aalto University's Games Now!
Sam visited Aalto University for a special fireside chat centred around Alan Wake 2 in late February. The open lecture was part of Aalto University's Games Now! event, which explored the video game industry and the latest trends. 

23rd February - r/AlanWake Celebrates 50K with Dev AMA
With over 50,000 members on the community-run Alan Wake 2 subreddit, Remedy celebrated the milestones with a developer AMA featuring Nathalie Jankie (Mission Designer), Marko Muikku (Gameplay Lead) and John Crossland (Lead Character Artist) 

26th February - Alan Wake 2 Wins VES Award
At the VES Awards, Remedy walked home from the event with the award for "Outstanding Visual Effects In A Real-Time Project", presented for Alan Wake 2.

26th February - ESA Winter 2024 w. Flash Mob
ESA Winter 2024 provided a week full of streamed speedrunning goodness, all to raise money for Make-A-Wish International. The event was a huge success, collecting over $85,000 for the charity, and featured some Herald of Darknessing. 

28th February - Remedy Acquires Full Rights to Control
At the end of the month, Remedy announced that they had purchased the full rights for Control back from 505 Games for €17 million. The publisher support for the game would wrap up at the end of 2024. 



March

1st March - Alan Wake 2 Wins Three NAVGTR Awards
Alan Wake 2 took home three trophies at the NAVGTR Awards 2024; "Graphics, Technical," "Writing in a Drama", and "Song, Original or Adapted", with the latter awarded for Old Gods of Asgard's Herald of Darkness.

3rd March - MPSE Golden Reel Awards 2024
In mid-March, MPSE held their annual Golden Reel Awards event, a prestigious ceremony that named Alan Wake 2 as the winner for "Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing—Game Dialogue / ADR".

6th March - Alan Wake 2 Update 1.0.16.1
Remedy published a brand new Alan Wake 2 update (1.0.16.1) for PCs, which lowered the minimum GPU requirements to GeForce GTX 1070 / Radeon RX 5600 XT.

7th March - BATFA Games 2024 Nominations
Nominations for the 20th BAFTA Games Awards were announced in March which spotlighted 40 games across 17 categories. Alan Wake 2 entered the event strong with eight nominations.

8th March - Remedy Celebrates IWD
For International Women's Day, the studio spotlighted five incredible female developers, all from different Remedy departments, to share what advice they'd give to other women in the industry and how the industry needs to improve.

8th March - Alanko on the Apprehension Engine
The Guardian had the opportunity to interview Petri Alanko who talked about his "no deadlines missed" promise and creating a "hostile ambience" for Wake's latest adventure.

8th March - Game Audio Awards 2024
For Alan Wake 2's audio team, the Game Audio Awards was a huge night, with the title performing a hat-trick, taking home; "Best Game Music", "Best Game Music Audience Favourite", and "Best Game Sound Design Audience Favourite".

13th March - Control Joins Xbox Game Pass Ultimate 
Control Ultimate Edition was named as one of six games heading to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in March, alongside Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun and No More Heroes 3.

15th March - Community Spotlight: Edvard Spells
For our first Community Spotlight of 2024, we spoke to the brilliantly talented Edvard Spells, a cosplayer who seemingly effortless switches between Alan Wake and Mr Scratch. Keep an eye on that one!

16th March - Nebula Awards 2024 Nomination
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA) announced the finalists for the 59th Annual Nebula Awards, with Alan Wake 2 nominated for Game Writing. 

17th March - Remedy Joins TikTok
To kick off their new TikTok channel, Remedy shared a video of their Creative Director leading the team in a synchronised coffee sip.

18th March - Exclusive Interview with Tiia Ohman
Best known as Poets of the Fall's talented resident photographer, Tiia Ohman also worked on Alan Wake 2, providing gorgeous photos for the game's promotions, in-game posters, and for Old Gods of Asgard merchandise. 

19th March - Behind the Voice Talks to Sam Lake
In a new podcast episode, Behind the Voice talks to Sam Lake on fan theories, the importance of music, Old Gods of Asgard and the Remedy Connected Universe.

20th March - Remedy's Financial & Annual Report 2023
In mid-March, Remedy Entertainment published five reports detailing its internal developments from 2023. 

25th March - TV Pulse's Interview with Matthew Porretta
Jennifer and Matthew talk about a range of topics from Alan Wake's legacy to Herald of Darkness, what it was like working opposite Ilkka Villi, Doctor Darling's questionable ethics, fan theories, and a lot more!

29th March - The Hugo Awards 2024 Nominations
The finalists for the prestigious, Hugo Awards 2024, were announced in late March, with Alan Wake 2 nominated for "Best Game or Interactive Work".

29th March - Game Developer Choice Awards 2024
Another trophy was added to the cabinet as Remedy took home the "Best Visual Art Award" for Alan Wake 2 at the 24th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards 2024.

30th March - Michael's Mixdown Talks to OGoA
Markus "Captain" Kaarlonen and Olli Tukiainen from Poets of the Fall joined Michael's Mixdown for an Alan Wake 2-themed episode, where they talk about stepping into their alter ego roles. 



April

1st April - Alan Wake Pocket Pal April Fool's
"The most tortured of writers, now always available in the real Dark Place: Your pocket! Write your story together with Pocket Pal Alan Wake! Available now!"

11th April - BAFTA Games Awards 2024
The BAFTA Game Awards was a big night for the Alan Wake 2 team, with the studio collecting awards for "Audio Achievement" and "Artistic Achievement". The evening was packed with interviews, photographs, and acceptance speeches.

12th April - Roberto Padron Talks to Vandal
Vandal's Sara Borondo sat down with Roberto Padron (Level Designer at Remedy Entertainment) in April, to talk about his gaming journey. 

16th April - Alan Wake 2 Kickoff Livestream
Thomas Puha (Communications Director) and Kyle Rowley launched the first of five scheduled broadcasts, set to take place over the next month.

17th April - Behind the Voice Talks to Doug Cockle
In their eighty-minute episode, they explored a long range of topics, including the actor's career, the future of AI, The Witcher series, his latest RPG adventure with Natural Six, and getting bloodied up to take on Nightingale. 

18th April - Alan Wake 2 Audio & Music Dev Stream
Vida Starčević (Senior Community Manager) hosted the two-hour livestream, with Petri Alanko and Richard Lapington (Audio Director). During the broadcast, the three talk about the challenges and rewards of creating audio for video games

19th April - Remedy Sweden Celebrates One Year
Remedy Sweden celebrated one year at their new studio, in the heart of Södermalm. 

23rd April - Behind the Voice Talks to Matthew Porretta
In the new episode, Abhi and Matthew delve into the actor's standout moment of Alan Wake 2, performing Dyna-Mite in Control, working alongside Ilkka Villi in a live-action scene, and performing at The Game Awards. 

24th April - A Dose of Remedy [April 2024]
In their April newsletter, the studio shared updates on the Oh Deer Diner thermos, their adventures at GDC, and the retirement of the WED (The World Editor) after almost twenty years of service.

25th April - Remedy's Core Management Changes
In late April, there were announced changes to the core management team, with the departure of Christopher Schmitz (COO) and the promotion of Mikael Kasurinen to Creative Director.

25th April - Poets of the Fall Celebrates 21st Anniversary
While their debut album, Signs of Life, didn't get released until 2005, the band celebrated their official start with the launch of Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne in 2003, which spotlighted their first single, Late Goodbye.

25th April - Actor Interview: Peter Franzén
In late April, Remedy shared an interview with actor Peter Franzén, the incredible Alan Wake 2 actor who portrayed the fan-favourite Koskela brothers, Jaakko and Ilmo

28th April - Webby Awards 2024
The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) announced the winners, nominees, and honorees for 2024's Webby Awards, with Alan Wake 2 taking home "Best Music/Sound Design".

29th April - Remedy Business Review Q1 2024
As they wrap up the first quarter, Remedy published their Business Review which covered taking ownership of the Control IP and provided an update on the Alan Wake 2 sales. 



May

2nd May - Alan Wake 2 Live Action Dev Stream
Once again, Vida hosted the two-hour livestream, with Anssi Määttä (Live Action & Cinematics Director) and Mikko Riikonen (Principal Cinematographer) as they talked about the challenges of creating those impressive live-action shots that left us in awe. 

6th May - Remedy Celebrates 10K Discord Milestone
Last week, Remedy celebrated its 10,000th member joining the official studio Discord server! To celebrate the milestone, the community team set up two special events; a developer Q&A and a fan art competition.

7th May - Remedy Cancels "Kestrel" Project
In early May, Remedy announced that it has cancelled the "Kestrel" project to focus on other games in its portfolio.

10th May - Tornion Panimo Releases AHMA Beer
Following the release of Alan Wake 2, Remedy teamed up with local brewery Tornion Panimo to bring AHMA Sauna Lager to life.  AHMA can be found in K-Ruoka, S-Kaupat and Alko.

14th May - Alan Wake 2 Soundtrack Now Available
Remedy and Laced Records surprised fans with the pending release of the highly-anticipated AW2 soundtrack. The launch of which would coincide with Alan Wake's fourteenth anniversary. [Community Watch Party.]

14th May - Celebrating 14 Years of Alan Wake
If you feel like 1995 was five years ago, you might want to consider sitting down for this next part. Today marked fourteen years since Alan Wake first launched, sparking the first venture into the RCU.

16th May - Alan Wake 2 Pacific Northwest Dev Stream
For the third livestream, Vida was back as host for the two-hour broadcast, which featured special guests Anne-Lynn Sottas (Senior Environment Artist), Anne-Marie Grönroos (Lead Mission Designer), and Kyle Rowley. 

16th May - Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2024
To mark Global Accessibility Awareness Day, I wrote an article about how the Control Assist Mode was a game changer for me when dealing with chronic migraines.

16th May - Finnish Game Awards 2024
The Finnish Game Awards 2024 saw local developers dress up smartly for an evening celebrating the country's flourishing games industry. At the end of the night, Remedy took home the "Finnish Game of the Year 2023" for Alan Wake 2.

21st May - Nordic Game Spring 2024 & Awards
On its final day, Petri Alanko took to the stage to talk about his experience designing Alan Wake 2's haunting soundtrack. Remedy, with five nominations, headed into the Nordic Game Awards held later that same evening. 

22nd May - GamesBeat Visionary Awards 2024
This year, the winner of the "Visionary Award", a category chosen by a panel of twelve judges from across the industry, was Remedy's Creative Director, Sam Lake.

29th May - Poison Pill Entertainment Takeover
Remedy surprised fans with a social media takeover... of sorts. The studio changed their company name online to Poison Pill Entertainment and uploaded new profile pictures showcasing a striped letter P against a black background.

30th May - We In Games Finland x Remedy 
Remedy hosted a special evening for We In Games Finland members which allowed visitors to see their offices, network with other developers and listen to a series of talks from Remedy devs.

30th May - Alan Wake 2 The Dark Place Dev Stream
In their fourth dev livestream, the team revisited The Dark Place, and looked back at the process of creating a hostile and breathing city. Guests included Nazareno Urbano (Lead Environment Artist), Admir Burnić (Level Designer), and Dimitri Giacoletto (Level Designer).



June

3rd June - SIOW Mental Health Summit
In the Summer, Safe In Our World arranged a day-long event in London to explore the topic of mental health in the games industry. Guests included Doug Cockle (Alan Wake 2's Nightingale) in a panel called "Voices for Change". 

3rd June - Remedy Teases Number One Fan DLC Story
Posted just after their online transformation to Poison Pill Entertainment, Remedy shared a simple image; a dull white mug decorated in mint and pastel pink with the words "Nite's Diner", "the best in Night Springs".

4th June - Summer Games Fest's Night Springs Trailer
With Summer Game Fest 2024 creeping ever closer, Geoff Keighley, the show's host and creator, shared the first look at some of the games set to be featured during Friday's livestream. 

4th June - North Star Expansion Epansion Teaser
A few days later, Remedy posted their second teaser for the upcoming Night Springs pack, coinciding with the team's final Summer Game Fest preparations. The image mirrors the style of a vintage poster, inviting their audience to "Join Us. Make the World Coffee."

6th June - Remedy Shares Book Cover DLC Teaser
Just before Summer Games Fest, Remedy shared their latest teaser, featured a mock book cover, "Love Will Hurt" in mint and pastel pink colours.

7th June - Summer Game Fest 2024 Reveals [Wrap Up]
The Summer Game Fest was a packed show! On stage, Remedy revealed new physical editions for Alan Wake 2, the game's new Photo Mode, and showcased their Night Springs Launch Trailer, with release date.

7th June - Alan Wake 2 Physical Editions Revealed
Remedy revealed two versions of the Alan Wake 2 physical editions; the deluxe edition available in late October, and the collector's edition exclusive to Limited Run which launched in December.

8th June - Night Springs Expansion Press Coverage
Embargos lifted on Night Springs previews and interviews following the Summer Games Fest broadcast. Coinciding with the lift, Remedy spoke to new publications at Play Days, as the launch time approached

8th June - Night Springs Expansion Launches
Inspired by the fictional TV show, the expansion combines three episodes, exploring quirky "what if" scenarios with doubles of Rose Marigold, Jesse Faden, and Tim Breaker. 

8th June - Alan Wake 2 Update v1.1
The new update introduced Photo Mode, a highly-anticipated mode which allowed players to experience the game in a new light. The mode was made available for all players, regardless of which pack purchased.

10th June - Control Ultimate Edition Revealed for Mac
In it's press release, the studio described that the game will be "Optimized for Apple silicon Macs, with support for HDR and MetalFX Upscaling, and for hardware-accelerated ray tracing on Macs with the latest M3 family of chips."

13th June - Final Oh Deer Diner Thermos Sale
iam8bit announced that they would be kicking off their second and final batch in mid-June, with some new measures in place to ensure more fans would be able to buy them.

19th June - Official Remedy Store Closes
In mid-June, Remedy announced the closure of their Official Store. Puha later explained that the move was due to time-limitations and the need to refocus those efforts on internal projects.

19th June - Remedy Reveals AW2 Photo Mode Contest
To celebrate the recent launch of Alan Wake 2's highly-anticipated Photo Mode, Remedy revealed their latest community competition which tasked fans with sending in the best shot they've taken in the game.

20th June - Alan Wake 2 Photo Mode Dev Stream
Following the update, Julius Fondem (Community Manager) sat down with Riho Kroll (Lead UI/UX Designer) to explore the team's approach to the new feature, and to learn how they drew on real-life photography to detirmine how to tailor it.

20th June - POTF x Honey Gee's The Happy Song Remix
Poets of the Fall surprised fans with a new remix, in collaboration with Honey Gee. The remix takes The Happy Song and twists it into a dance beat, with a more dramatic build-up and a heavier, quicker beat.

21st June - Ben Gelinas' Times & Galaxy Launches
Fellow Traveller published Times & Galaxy, a brand new story-focused adventure developed by Ben Gelinas (Writer, Control) and Copychaser Games. In the game, you take on the role of the first robo-reporter for the respected holo-paper.

25th June - Alan Wake 2 Update v.1.1.1
With the latest patch, Remedy focused on improving the newly released Night Springs expansion, including revised resource drops, patched ending-preventing bugs, and fixed achievements.

26th June - Night Springs Character Profile: The Actor
"Too much time has passed since this Actor's last gig at Poison Pill Entertainment. He's over the moon to be back working with Sam. The project is pretty mysterious, but he's done superhero roles in the past..."

28th June - Remedy Teases Expansion Release Window
An edit to the Alan Wake 2 FAQ following Summer Games Fest teased the release window for The Lake House, revealing it to have an October launch target. 

30th June - Terhi Kauppi Departs Remedy
Terhi Kauppi, Remedy's CFO, announced that she would depart the studio at the end of June after six years with the company.

30th June - The Canine Condition Documentary
In June, Jacqueline Piñol, the fantastic actor behind Quantum Break's Dr Sofia Amaral, celebrated the launch of The Canine Condition on YouTube, her award-winning documentary series which follows neglect of dogs and profit-culture in America. 



July

2nd June - Night Springs Character Profile: The Siblings
"She has been searching for her brother for what feels like her entire life. He was taken by a convert sinister government agency when they were just children. Now she's tracked down her brother and that same agency is trying to stop her from finding out the truth."

2nd June - Summer Games Done Quick 
Summer Games Done Quick wrapped up, collecting a mind-blowing $2,572,217.39 from 33,864 supporters. They took on Alan Wake 2's Initiation, with two unlockable rewards or "bids"; Do the Dance and Pet the Mayor.

3rd July - Community Spotlight: Moss Baby
For our second Community Spotlight of 2024, we put Moss Baby in the spotlight and took a closer look at their brilliantly stylish and hilarious artwork, guaranteed to improve your day.

5th July - Christian Ward's Many Worlds Volume One
Christian Ward kicked off his successful campaign for his new art book, Many Worlds Volume One. With a foreword by Sam Lake, the book is filled with incredible artwork, created by the artist behind the Night Springs graphic novel cinematics.

8th July - Benjamin Lindquist's Adobe Blog Post

10th July - Develop:Star Awards 2024
Remedy collected an additional two awards for Alan Wake 2 at the Develop:Star Awards 2024 in the UK, with Sam Lake receiving a third trophy for "Best Creative Lead" for his work.

25th July - Shoutout: Burning Fish's Max Payne Trailer
To celebrate its 23rd year milestone, Burning Fish has recreated the E3 2001 Max Payne trailer in 4K, and accompanied it with a comparison between the new and original versions.

26th June - Max Payne's 23rd Anniversary
Following James McCaffrey's passing, Max Payne's 23rd anniversary was a tribute to the late actor's life and his contribution to the series. [Photo: @lazyonion]


30th July - AW2 Narrative Team on Metsänpeitto
Rock Paper Shotgun returned to the mysterious forests of Bright Falls in search of the myth that inspired the team. For the piece, they spoke to Sinikka Annala (Narrative Designer), Clay Murphy (Principle Writer), and Ciara Creagh-Peschau (Foliage and Photogrammetry Artist).



August

2nd August - Game Informer Magazine Closes Down
Game Informer closed after thirty-three years. The closure of one of the industry's biggest magazines was made with the immediate lay-off of staff members and the removal of the site.

5th August - Anssi Määttä Shares AW2 Vortex Process
Over the weekend, Anssi Määttä (Live-Action & Cinematics Director) shared a behind-the-scenes video showing how he and the team captured the footage of the "vortex" effect shown in Alan Wake 2.

6th August - Behind the Voice Talks to Christina Cole
The Behind the Voice podcast was back with another Alan Wake 2 themed episode. Uploaded over the weekend, host Abhi Jha spoke to the Christina Cole, the actor behind Alice Wake's heartbreaking performance in Alan Wake 2.

7th August - Santtu Kallionpaa Joins Remedy as CEO
In early August, Remedy revealed that Santtu Kallionpää would be joining their core management team as their new Chief Financial Officer. He replaces Remedy's former-CFO, Terhi Kauppi, who left the company in June 2024.

7th August - Natural Six's Deck of Many Friends
Natural Six announced the line-up for their Deck of Many Friends which included a character created by Remedy's Sam Lake.

9th August - Remedy H1 2024 Financial Report
In their H1 2024 Financial Report, Remedy provided new details on continued royalties, their move to self-publishing, and the progress they've made on the Max Payne 1&2 Remake.

15th August - Alan Wake 2 Writing & Narrative Dev Stream
In their first post-break livestream, Vida sat down with Clay Murphy (Principal Writer) and Simon Wasselin (Lead Narrative Designer) as they revisited their journey from the script to the finished product.

8th August - Apogee Reveals Remedy's 1997 Prototype
In early August, Apogee delved into their archives and shared a never-before-seen prototype of Void, created by Remedy in 1997 following the release of Death Rally.

19th August - World Photography Day 2024
For World Photography Day, Remedy announced the winners of their Alan Wake 2 Photo Mode contest and shared tips from five virtual photographers. The event was mirrored with 505 Games sharing advice for those new to Control's Photo Mode.
24th August - Control Joins Xbox Games Pass Core
In late August, Xbox announced the three new games that will be joining the Xbox Game Pass Core catalogue the following month; Control Ultimate Edition, Cities: Skylines, and SnowRunner.

27th August - Control's 5th Anniversary
To celebrate the anniversary, Remedy arranged a giveaway featuring three Control "swag bags". Our own celebration had some special merch too; a signed Poets of the Fall Ultraviolet vinyl. That's not all though, the community was absolutely ALIVE with tributes!

27th August - Actors Interview: Villi & Liburd
A new "The Actors Behind Alan Wake 2" video saw Ilkka Villi and Melanie Liburd sit down to discuss  their characters, the recording process, the weirdness of working in games, and what they're most excited for players to see. 

28th August - Apogee Giveaway: Max Payne Film Script
Apogee launched their latest Twitter giveaway in which one fan won an older version of the Max Payne film script from October 2007, described as the “original script” sold to FOX.

29th August - Alan Wake 2 The Characters Dev Stream
In a new dev stream,  Vida sat down with John Crossland (Lead Character Artist), Ilkka Kuusela (Lead Gameplay Animator), and Kyle Rowley (Game Director) to talk all things creation, costuming, and designing for the characters.

29th August - Remedy & Annapurna Partnership Revealed
In late-August, Remedy and Annapurna signed a new partnership for Control 2, as well as for the TV/movie rights for both Control and Alan Wake.



September

3rd September - #ControlStickyNoteDay
2024  also saw a new tradition born with Control Sticky Note Day. Inspired by the post-it room in the game, and spearheaded by Tammy Quarry, the event tasks you bring a Control twist to your post-its. [Image: @Internal_Solace]

10th September - Strange Moons Replace Space Oddity
On this day, Remedy rolled out a new update for Alan Wake (PC) which replaced Space Oddity with Strange Moons, a new track by the game's composer, Petri Alanko. The switch was made in response to an expiring music license. 


6th September - A Dose of Remedy [September 2024]

In their second email of the year, Remedy shared news of their new partnership with Annapurna and looked back at their recent Control celebrations.

15th September - Rebecca S Peebs' Charity Stream
Coinciding with Deerfest, Alan Wake 2 speed runner-extraordinaire, Rebecca S Peebs returned  to the strange shores of Bright Falls in a charity livestream. The event raised money for Doctors Without Borders, an international humanitarian charity.

18th September - Offical Actors Interview: Jessica Preddy
In her "The Actors Behind the Alan Wake 2" interview, Jessica Preddy talked about her approach to the role and how the character has changed in the ten years since the original.

23rd September - The Oceanview Guest Book Fanzine
The Oceanview Guest Book zine celebrated the creativity within the community, with the project exploring the Remedy Connected Universe in its entirity.

25th September - State of Play Reveals The Lake House First Glimpse
PlayStation's State of Play provided us with the first glimpse into The Lake House, the second of two story expansions, confirmed for October. 

29th September - Remedy's €15m Loan for Self-Publishing
Remedy revealed the they had been in talks with Tencent for a convertible loan worth €15 million. The developers revealed that the money would be going towards internal developments as it explores self-publishing options.



October

5th October - Alan Wake Remastered Anniversary
Today marked Alan Wake Remastered's third anniversary! Revisited by d3t, the remaster introduced PlayStation owners to the world of Bright Falls, and brought new graphics, new facial motion capture, and new RCU ties to the experience.

16th October - Golden Joystick Awards 2024 Nominations
In October, we learnt that Alan Wake 2's Expansion Pass, featuring the Night Springs and The Lake House episodes, had been nominated for a Golden Joystick Award!. 

17th October - Xbox Partner Preview [October] 
Xbox Partner Preview provided viewers with an extended glimpse into what awaits FBC Agent Estevez in Alan Wake 2's expansion, The Lake House. The footage was paired with a launch date (October 22nd), and an article on Xbox Wire.

17th October - FBC: Firebreak Revealed
In a surprise announcement, Xbox Partner Preview shared debut trailer for FBC: Firebreak, a three-player cooperative multiplayer set in the Federal Bureau of Control. 

18th October - First Look at FBC: Firebreak
Following last night's reveal of FBC: Firebreak, Remedy has shared a first look video, exploring in more in-depth what the team has been working on. The four-minute video showcases new gameplay footage and interview snippets.

19th October - Poe Reveals Limited This Road Vinyl
Scheduled to launch in late November, Poe reveaed their new Limited Edition 12" vinyl covering the two songs featured in Alan Wake 2; This Road (AW) and 6 Deep Breaths

21st October - Alan Wake 2 PlayStation Pro Details
To celebrate the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro, Remedy published an article detailing the work that went into upgrading Alan Wake 2 for the latest console version. The piece talks about ray-tracing and console-specific upgrades.

21st October - Alan Wake 2 Day-One Bucket Purchase
As a day one reward, the first fifty fans who purchased Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition in select Finnish stores (Kosnolinet in Kamppi and VPD Pelikauppa in Tikkuri) walked away with a green branded bucket. 

22nd October - The Lake House Embargo Lifts
Ahead of its launch, Remedy had a closed roundtable with select media to showcase and discuss their upcoming expansion, The Lake House.

22nd October - The Lake House Expansion Released
Available as part of the Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition, The Lake House follows the story of FBC Agent Kieran Estevez as she responds to an emergency at the Bright Falls research station. 

22nd October - Alan Wake 2 Physical Editions Released
Coinciding with the game's anniversary, physical console editions of Alan Wake 2 were released. Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition packed both the base game and expansion pass together, forming a complete experience.

22nd October - Alan Wake 2 Update Notes 1.2.2
The anniverary update brought The Lake House expansion, alongside the new Assist Mode and a ton of requested fixes. Most importantly though, it brought back the classic Alan Wake outfit, as seen in the original game. 

23rd October - Olli Tukiainen Releases Livin' The Dream
Poets of the Fall's guitarist, Olli Tukiainen, released his latest single and music video, Livin' the Dream! The track marks the second single since the brand was formed six years ago.

27th October - UKRC Arranges Community Gathering
Earlier this year, Taffy, Astor, and Madame Purple teamed up for a brand-new group centred around UK-based Remedy community. For their first outing, the UKRC met up in person at MCM London Expo.

27th October - Alan Wake 2's First Anniversary
It's been a year since Alan Wake 2 released, picking up the story of the original and introducing us to FBI Agent, Saga Anderson and Alex Casey, as they investigate the thresholds between our world and the Dark Place.

28th October - Alan Wake 2 Update 1.2.3
Following the launch of The Lake House, Remedy released a patch to fix issues reported by players, including fixes to the Shape of a Man achievement and improvements to the adaptive triggers.

31st October - Laced Records Reveals Alan Wake 2 Vinyl
Alan Wake 2's haunting soundtrack was announced on vinyl for April 2025, available from Laced Records. For the pre-order collection, there are four versions; two limited editions and two deluxe double vinyls. 



November

5th November - Ollie T's Debut Solo Album
Ollie T surprised fans with the announcment of his debut album, Lost Within The Fire! The news came just days from his latest single, Livin' The Dream, was released after a six-year break.

6th November - Poe Reveals Second Press of This Road
With the first edition selling out within days of going live, Poe has announced a second run of her upcoming album, This Road

7th November - Actor Interview: Gavankar & Lake
November started with a new interview featuring Sam Lake and Janina Gavankar. The discussion was recorded back in December 2022, a year before Alan Wake 2 came out.

14th November - Lake To Receive Legend Award
To kick off 2025 right, Remedy's Creative Director, Sam Lake, has been named the latest recipient of the Andrew Yoon Legend Award for the upcoming 14th Annual New York Video Game Awards.

18th November - Alan Wake 2 Update 1.2.4
The majority of the changes in the 1.2.4 update patched issues with the latest expansion, including ammo rebalances, correcting cinematic triggers, fixing localisation errors, and running maintenance on a dodgy lift. 

21st November - Behind the Voice & Janina Gavankar
The Behind the Voice podcast was back with another Alan Wake 2 themed episode! This time Abhi Jha talks to Janina Gavankar, the actor behind the fierce FBC Agent Kieran Estevez, the lead of Alan Wake 2's expansion, The Lake House.

26th November - Alan Wake 2 Update 1.2.5
Remedy's late-November update, fixed a number of reported bugs including enemy rebalancing, missing Pat Maine radio shows, and Scratch getting stuck behind things.



December

3rd December - Actor Interview: Ditson & Milligan
The five-minute conversation, released in early December, with Harry Ditson (Odin Anderson) and Stuart Milligan (Tor Anderson) is paired with behind the scenes footage, including motion capture recordings.

6th December - Alan Wake 2 Update 1.2.6
Ahead of the holidays, Remedy's 1.2.6 update aimed to fix a sneaky bug; a missing Pump Action Shotgun from its case in Return 06. The absence of the piece also prevented players from unlocking a weapon-related achievement.

10th December - This Road Vinyl Signing & Recording
Poe and Sam Lake travelled to Amoeba Hollywood in Los Angeles, for a special signing for the artist's latest release, This Road. The evening ended with a live performance, held at the EastWest Studios.

12th December - Dead By Daylight's Ugly Jumper Update
To wrap up the year, Behaviour Interactive released an update, kickstarting Dead By Daylight's new festive event. The event, appropriately named Bone Chill 2024, brings new festive outfits, including one for Alan Wake.

12th December - The Game Awards 2024
While Remedy wasn't among the nominations at The Game Awards this year, the show wasn't without a studio-themed twist. Presenting the award for Best Narrative was Sam Lake who approached it with an Alex Casey mix.

14th December - Horror Game Awards 2024
Kyle Rowley was a guest host at this year's Horror Game Awards, presenting the category for Game of the Year. 

17th December - Alan Wake 2 Update 1.2.7
The final update of the year aimed to fix a sneaky bug; targeted at improving the performance on the PlayStation 5 Pro.

23rd December - Ollie T Answers Community Questions
Ahead of Christmas, Ollie T (plus a tiny dog!) answered fan submitted questions, which included some Old Gods of Asgard-related answers.

24th December - Remedy & POTF's Festive Messages
Before closing down the studios for the holidays, Remedy and Poets of the Fall posted their final messages on their social media channels, spreading season's greetings and talking about their hopes for 2025.

24th December - Happy Holidays!
Every year, we commission an artist in the community to create a special piece. In 2024, we had the pleasure of working with Rist (aka @HiThereRist) who created a nerdy and festive scene packed with Control and Alan Wake Easter Eggs.

25th December - Control Free on Epic Store
As a surprise treat, The Epic Games Store gave away the base game of Control as part of their daily free adventure to celebrate the holidays. 

27th December - Behind the Voice Talks to Kyle Rowley
While the podcast focuses on voice actors within the industry, Behind the Voice has branching out over the past year with Alan Wake 2. In his final episode of 2024, he spoke to Kyle Rowley about his work on Alan Wake 2.

31st December - New Year's Eve!
