As promised, the Xbox Partner Preview provided viewers with an extended glimpse into what awaits FBC Agent Estevez in Alan Wake 2's expansion, The Lake House. Leading the broadcast, we saw a trailer which blends live action footage, cinematics and gameplay, and teased new enemy types lurking in the darkened corners of the brutalist establishment.
There's not long to wait, either! Originally teased for an October launch, we finally got the fixed release date of October 22nd.
That's not all! Xbox Wire published an exclusive first look at the expansion, alongside interviews with some key developers behind the project; Clay Murphy (Lead Writer), Kyle Rowley (Game Director), and Miika Huttunen (Communications Manager), The article also teases a possible return for a character from the original adventure, with the mention of the new enemy type, the Painted. Though just a theory, it potentially indicates that Cauldron Lake Lodge's former resident, Rudolf whose paintings either foretold or paved the way for events to happen, could be a returning name.
The Lake House follows the story of FBC Agent Kiran Estevez (portrayed by Janina Gavankar). Running parallel to the start of the sequel of the sequel, Estevez responds to an emergency alarm from a catastrophic event which has left the Bright Falls research station in devastation. Through a series of reckless experiments, the line between reality and the Dark Place has now become blurred. For those who watch the trailer, they will get a teaser of the darker horror element, and for Control fans, there's a sneak peek of something at the end that you might be interested in. (As some people may want to experience the surprise fresh, we've excluded their name or description.)
The accompanying press release also shared some special extras coming in the next update:
- New Songs. The Alan Wake series wouldn't be the same without its incredible music collection. In this upcoming expansion, players will be treated to a new song from Poe called 6 Deep Breaths, as well as a new track by game composer, Petri Alanko, entitled End of an Era, featuring Amelia Jones.
- Assist Mode. Following its success in Control, a similar Assist Mode will be coming to Alan Wake 2, available to all players regardless of edition. The new options will enable players to tailor their experience, allow them to enable immortality, unlimited resources, sprint toggling, and motion aim (PS5) to name a few.
- Original Outfit. Possibly the best news us oldie fans could hope for. If you have the Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition, you will soon be able to return to Bright Falls with the original dapper tweed outfit.
