Game Informer Magazine Closes Down After 33 Years

GameStop has announced that they are closing down Game Informer after thirty-three years of magazines, gaming news, and exclusives.

The news came as a surprise to the industry as one of the most prestigious media outlets closed its doors, with an immediate lay-off of staff members and the removal of the site.

All previous links now redirect to a static page with a final message from the team. The letter reads, "The final level: farewell from Game Informer. After 33 thrilling years of bringing you the latest news, reviews, and insights from the ever-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Game Informer. From the early days of pixelated adventures to today's immersive journey with you, our loyal readers. While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming that we've cultivated together will continue to live on. Thank you for being part of our epic quest, and may your own gaming adventures never end."

Throughout Game Informer's long history, they are perhaps best known for their exclusive month-long coverage of upcoming games. Both Quantum Break and Control were the subjects of those spotlights in recent years, which saw gorgeous and custom-made artwork grace the covers, and in-depth interviews and analysis filling the pages.

While the Game Informer site is no longer active, to ensure that their work is still appreciated and for the community, we've gone through all of our pages with GI links and redirected them to archived versions via Wayback Machine.

The sudden closure has had a devastating impact on those working on the magazine, and will leave a hole in the industry. The reason behind the immediate closure has not been given, though GameStop's CEO, chairman, and Scooby-Doo villain, Ryan Cohen, whose aggressive introduction letter included the instruction "lead by example" is currently being sued for insider trading.

The Twitter page, has also been scrubbed by management following a respectful final goodbye tweet posted to the page by a former employee.

A huge thank you to everyone who has worked at Game Informer for their passion and dedication. Your work was outstanding, and you didn't deserve the management you had.
