Today, Remedy went live with a brand new Alan Wake 2 developer livestream, this time with a closer look at the game's quirky characters.
For the broadcast, Remedy's Senior Community Manager, Vida Starčević, sat down with John Crossland (Lead Character Artist), Ilkka Kuusela (Lead Gameplay Animator), and Kyle Rowley (Game Director) to talk all things creation, costuming, and designing for the characters.
During the two-hour livestream, they covered a lot of topics including the process of designing the physical outfits for the protagonists, learning the new technology, designing realistic hair, using specialised motion capture rig, enemy progression, working during Covid, and beard growth. We also got a glimpse into some of the actor rehearsal sessions, with a recorded interview between Ilkka Villi (actor, Alan Wake) and Sam Lake (Creative Director).
A quick note for those who haven't finished the game yet! While it's not as critical as the previous narrative livestream, you may want to complete the adventure before you tune in, as there's some character-related plot twists that you want will want to experience fresh. If you've completed the adventure, and you're good to go, you can check out the full recording below!
Near the end, one of the questions touches on a piece of concept artwork featuring a Taken bear. The question refers to a piece released in a 2015 Polygon article, which is highly recommended if you haven't checked it out yet, Introducing the Alan Wake 2 you will never play.
Similar to previous developer streams, the broadcast lasts for two hours, exploring the topics and designs much deeper than we've heard before. As always, the above video has been embedded with Twitch and YouTube chat, so you can follow the community discussions regardless of where you watch. The first part features a discussion between the developers with pre-written questions talking about the process, before opening the floor to community questions.
The broadcast is also the final in the schedule for the time being. We'll let you know if any further discussions are added at a later time, but meanwhile If you want more Alan Wake 2 goodness, you can jump back to the previous livestreams and retread the Pacific Northwest or to learn more about the cinematic and live-action process.
