Remedy & 505 Games Celebrates World Photography Day 2024 [Tips for Control & Alan Wake 2, Plus Contest Winners]

Today marks World Photography Day, an annual celebration of the craft and it's long history. With the expansion of Photo Mode in the games industry, many studios are taking advantage of the occasion to spotlight the virtual photographers in their communities. To kick off the week, we have a packed wrap-up post for you, featuring the studios' spotlight of the feature in both Control and Alan Wake 2. Let's get to it!

Alan Wake Photo Mode Contest

Back in June, Remedy announced their latest contest focusing around the newly launched Photo Mode for Alan Wake 2. Virtual photographers were tasked with sharing their best AW2 snaps (a maximum of four in one post) on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #AW2Photography for a chance to win one of three incredible prizes. While first prize focused on PC owners, the rest featured rare merchandise from the recent games, including a MAKIA jumper and a very limited edition Oh Deer Diner charm.

The winning entries were selected by Juhani Jokinen (Principal Concept Artist), and Riho Kroll (Lead UI/UX Designer) with a description from the team on what stood out.

Alan Wake 2 Photo Mode Community Tips

With Alan Wake 2's Photo Mode being based on real-life photography effects and settings, it can be a little tricky for amateur photographers to know where to start to get your ideal shot. In a new blog post, Remedy spoke to five super talented virtual photographers; Sara, Suni, Disco, BarryPaust and Rebecca-Sarah on their top tips for getting that perfect shot in Alan Wake 2. Their advice goes in-depth, exploring how best to use the lighting, contrasts, fog, lens distortion and more. The tips are paired with complementing pieces showcasing how to take advantage of their advice.

Control Photo Mode Community Tips

If you visit this website, you'll likely know that Alan Wake 2 isn't the only Remedy adventure with a Photo Mode. Since the feature was added to Control in October 2019, 505 Games' Global Director of Community, Antonela Pounder, has spotlighted the amazing virtual photographers on social media and the official website. A few weeks ago, 505 Games put a call-out for advice for newcomers to the experience. Antonela has since collected up a number of suggestions, along with some incredible snaps for a new article.
