Win Conditions Talks to Kyle Rowley On 20 Years In Games

Late last month, Kyle Rowley (Game Director on Alan Wake 2) sat down with Lester Chen at A16Z GAMES for a new episode of Win Conditions, an interview series which explores the careers of "leaders and entrepreneurs in the gaming industry".

Over the course of the forty-five-minute in-depth piece, Kyle talked about his passions growing up, his side projects, the weird jobs that paved the way to the industry, and his time Remedy and CD Projekt Red.

In the interview teaser, he recalls his introduction to Max Payne at an early age, sneakily getting in more game time while others were asleep, "I remember playing Max Payne; my mum was sleeping in a separate room, and I'd sneak into the room when she was trying to sleep. I'd put the headphones on, and I'll be like shoot dodging through the air... and she would wake up going 'Kyle what the fuck are you doing?' and I completed that while my Mum was sleeping basically.  I remember interviewing at Remedy and Sam came in, and I was almost like '....that's Sam, the guy who plays Max Payne'. Everyone had that. So, he was a big hero of mine at the time as well. "

His two decades in games, has led to different countries and different game genres. In recent years, he's also travelling across Europe with a stint working on Cyberpunk 2077 in Warsaw, Poland, between Quantum Break and Alan Wake 2. He returned to Finland and to Remedy in January 2019 as their new Game Director where he has been working on Alan Wake 2, and its expansion packs.
