It's been twenty-three years since the launch of Max Payne, the game which first defined Remedy as a studio. While the company and series parted following the launch of the sequel in 2003, Max Payne has continued to have a long-lasting influence in their work, whether it would be mirrors, references, or more direct inspirations.
One of the most iconic aspects of the series is Max Payne's haunting voice. Worn with the struggles that life has thrown him, but still fighting. The performance was delivered by James McCaffrey, whose friendship with the studio would continue across two and a half decades. After voicing the lead in Remedy's two Max Payne games, the US actor would go on to voice Thomas Zane in Alan Wake, Director Zachariah Trench in Control, and Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2. In his final project, both Sam Lake (physical actor) and McCaffrey (voice actor) would team up, just as they did in their first project together, to bring life to Casey.
Writing on Twitter, Sam Lake (Creative Director at Remedy and friend of the actor) recently posted, "Yesterday was the 23rd birthday of the first Max Payne. Remembering James. It’s hard not to think of him and his passing when thinking about Max Payne. He was such an important part of it. The one consistent element through all the three games. HBD, Max. Rest in peace, James."
The tweet was a quote reply to the Max Payne Brasil fan page, who shared a tribute to the game. For the milestone, and Sam's tribute to the amazing actor, we've collected some of the celebrations from the community.

I only became a fan of Max Payne a few years ago and ever since I beat the games I’ve fallen in love with them, always going back to replay them. James’ work in all 3 has stuck with me and continues to inspire me, he was a very talented man.
