Laced Records Talk The Importance of Soundtracks with GamesIndustry.biz

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Danny Kelleher (CEO of Laced Records) described that studios are "leaving money on the table" by not registering their music copyrights and seeing the value in their original soundtracks. The conversation was recorded soon after Remedy's latest collaboration with the company, which saw the release of the Alan Wake 2 soundtrack on digital platforms.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz on their partnership between Laced and Remedy, Kelleher states, "Remedy are just really lovely people, and we pitched very hard to bring in Alan Wake 2 as it was something we really wanted. We sent Remedy some copies of our previous vinyls because they wanted to put some of their artwork together. Sometimes we do all the artwork, sometimes the client wants to. With Remedy, they love to get hands-on and have creative direction on the artwork, so we're excited to see what they come up with."

The article's author, Sophie McEvoy also comments that throughout their discussion, "He notes that Remedy was really supportive and heavily involved throughout the whole process, particularly for the eventual vinyl release that both Remedy and Laced have alluded to online." While there's been speculation of a vinyl release for the Alan Wake 2 soundtrack in the community, the article is the first potential acknowledgement of it on the horizon. Given how similar reveals and releases have been, if we do hear of a vinyl this year, Remedy is likely to choose the game's first anniversary. If released, the vinyl would be Remedy's release, after Quantum Break (iam8bit) and Control (Laced Records).

In their discussion, they talk about the process of working with studios, the differences between indie and AAA titles, and the changes in the games industry. You can read the full conversation between Sophie and Danny, HERE
