Yesterday, the finalists for The Hugo Awards 2024 were announced, with Alan Wake 2 nominated for "Best Game or Interactive Work".The adventure is one of seven titles competing in the category, alongside Baldur's Gate 3, DREDGE, and Star War Jedi: Survivor.
For those who don't know, The Hugo Award is a prestigious literary award established in 1955 to celebrate science fiction and fantasy works. While video games have been a serious contender for a while, they were only recently added to the awards, with their debut in 2021. While they were proposed as a regular category, they only made a permanent return in 2024, listed in Best Game or Interactive Work.
The Hugo Awards are voted on by members of the World Science Fiction Convention (aka Worldcon), where the ceremony takes place. For a title to be considered for a Hugo Award, each member of the Worldcon is invited to nominate up to five people or works from the previous year in each of the fifteen categories. In early April the five finalists from each are announced, witht the final ballot take place later that year. This year, the Hugo Awards ceremony is set to take place at Worldcon, Glasgow 2024 on August 11th 2024.
Alan Wake 2 is up against some tough competition, with the full list featuring Baldur’s Gate 3 (Larian Studios), Chants of Sennaar (Rundisc), DREDGE (Black Salt Games), The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo), and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (Respawn Entertainment). There were 334 ballots cast for 165 nominees.
