Earlier this month, Remedy announced that their Financial Statements Bulletin for 2023 would be rescheduled from February 9th to March 20th, following the renegotiated contract with Tencent regarding Kestral.
Perhaps as a result, in a press release today, the developers revealed the sale numbers for Alan Wake 2, and things are looking good!
Since its release in October 2023, Alan Wake 2 sold one million units by the end of December 2023 and hit 1.3 million units as of February 2024, making it Remedy’s fastest-selling game so far.
While it has yet to recoup its development and marketing expenses, it's well on its way to do so. "By comparison, Alan Wake 2 sold over 50% more copies and over three times more digital copies in its first two months than Control did in its first four months," states Remedy's press release. They later state that since its release in 2019, Control has now sold over four million units, hoping that Alan Wake 2 follow its path, particularly with new DLC and updates on the way.
Behind the scenes, things have altered, with the closure on the main Alan Wake 2 adventure allowing a team restructure. As Remedy's CEO, Tero Virtala stated in the press release, “The successful launch of Alan Wake 2 has supported our other game projects: Condor, Control 2 and Max Payne 1&2 remake have all increased development pace thanks to the personnel released from Alan Wake 2, and we expect these projects to reach their next development stages during the first half of 2024. We now have two established franchises: Control and Alan Wake, which are linked through the Remedy Connected Universe. Growing and expanding these franchises will be a key part of our future.”
