This week, we got to view the first-ever Algeria Game Awards! Established by Just Play It, the group is the largest network dedicated to video games in Algeria & North Africa, so they knows a thing or two about what makes a good game. To mark its debut, the show featured a number of special guests, including Jane Perry (actor, Hitman & Returnal) and Studio Director & Co-Creative Director at Arkane Studios
Throughout the digital event, Alan Wake 2 was heavily in the spotlight, winning an incredible NINE awards for Best Game Direction, Game of the Year, Best Narrative, Best Technical Innovation, Best Art Direction, Best Horror Game, Best Audio Design, and Best Lead Performer (Matthew Porretta & Ilkka Villi), plus Best Studio for Remedy Entertainment.
After it was revealed that Alan Wake 2 had won Game of the Year, Sam Lake (Creative Director) and Kyle Rowley (Game Director) accepted the trophy on behalf of the Remedy team. In the message, Sam thanked the organisers and fans for their support, stating, "We are struggling to find the words for this overwhelmingly positive response to Alan Wake 2. Nine awards, including Game of the Year. This project has been a dream. It's been a massive effort for us for many years now. And as with video games, it's always been teamwork. Many talented individuals coming together to create something that is more than just the sum of its parts. The whole Remedy team, our wonderful publisher, Epic, supporting us through the whole way. Our brilliant, brilliant actors, musicians, everyone has contributed into making Alan Wake 2 what it is. Thank you so much." (You can read the full acceptance speech below.)
Following the livestream, the studio wrote on Twitter, "Thank you very much for the huge honor! We're extremely grateful to have the hard work of our studio and teams on Alan Wake 2 recognised by the Algeria Game Awards. شكرا!"
