The Golden Joystick Awards have announced the three final categories for this year's celebrations, including Ultimate Game of the Year, Best Lead Performer, and Best Supporting Performer.
For 2023, the event celebrates games released November 23rd 2022, and November 10th 2023, with voting closing this Friday on October 27th. The new categories sees a number of new nominations for Alan Wake 2, but with the release date just hours before voting closes, it's going to be tight!
First up is Best Performer, which includes both protagonists from the upcoming sequel: Ilkka Villi and Matthew Porretta as Alan Wake (a combined vote) and Melanie Liburd as Saga Anderson. They are up against Cameron Monaghan (Cal Kestis from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor), Ellise Chappell (Kathy Johanson from Deliver Us Mars), Yuri Lowenthal (Peter Parker in Marvel's Spider-Man 2), Nadji Jeter (Miles Morales in Marvel's Spider-Man 2), and Ben Star (Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI).
Second is the Ultimate Game of the Year, with Alan Wake 2 in the spotlight. This is going to be an extremely tough category. Alan Wake 2 is up against Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Street Fighter 6, Baldurs Gate 3, Resident Evil 4, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Sea of Stars, Final Fantasy XVI, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, Assasssins Creed Mirage, Starfield, Metroid Prime Remastered, Dead Space, Lords of the Fallen, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Cocoon, Diablo IV, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Hi-Fi Rush, and Forza Motorsport.
Remedy has been previously been shortlisted in two earlier categories, although voting had closed last week. They were Studio of the Year (Remedy Entertainment) and Best Game Trailer for Alan Wake 2 (The Dark Place Gameplay Trailer).
The winners will be announced at the Royal Lancaster London, in Hyde Park, on November 10th 2023. The event will be broadcast live, with details to come closer to the date. Prices for event attendance start at £420 (plus VAT) for early bird access.
