Before we head into the new year, I wanted to give a shoutout to Rowan, the amazing Australian artist behind our holiday card for 2022!
Rowan has been a constant bright light in the community and one of the busiest people I've ever met. Alongside creating nerdy patches (all embroidered by hand), they also edit together epic music videos, write stories, and host charity livestreams. They add so much positivity to the community and do so much too. You can read about their other adventures, HERE!
As embroidery and pixel artwork shares some unexpected overlap, we began talking one day and they ended up kindly offerinh to create the card*. The result beautifully blends together various iconic imagery from Remedy's catalogue including the Monarch butterfly (Quantum Break), coffee thermoses (Alan Wake), painkillers (Max Payne), and the hotline (Control). It came out brilliantly!
In 2023, Rowan will be celebrating the launch of their debut book, The Art of Betrayal. Inspired by Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves, the story is hauntingly beautiful and very creepy, requiring readers to become a detective and pick up the pieces of a dark mystery. It's seriously so good. *For transparency, the holiday cards tend to be a paid commission and the artist knows how the art will be used. The postcards also feature links back to their work or portfolio on the message side. There have been times when the artist has refused payment so a thank you box is sent to them because I love them and they must accept my love.
