The week, Finland's local gaming industry celebrated the challenges and achievements of the past year with The Finnish Game Awards 2022 and if you checked out the live stream, you may have seen some familiar faces!
Organized by Suomen Pelinkehittäjät ry (The Finnish Game Developers' Association) and Neogames Finland Association, the event celebrated the latest releases from developers in the country, as well as spotlighting individual contributions.
Housemarque's Returnal was among the big winners of the evening, with the team taking home two awards; Finnish Game of the Year and Big Screen Game of the Year. Alongside their awards, Harry Krueger (Game Director on Returnal), Mikael Haveri (Brand Director at Housemarque), and former-Remedy developer Eevi Korhonen (Senior Narrative Designer on Returnal) talked about their latest adventure! Eevi joined Housemarque and the Returnal team following the launch of Quantum Break where she was the Narrative Designer, her credits also cover the conceptual stage of Control.
Announcing the Rookie of the Year was Control's Juha Vainio who was sporting a very nerdy and fancy bowtie created specially for the event, alongside Housemarqe's CEO, Ilari Kuittinen. As well as being the Exeuctive Producer of the Control Franchise, Juha was also there as a board member at Suomen Pelinkehittäjät. He was not the only presenter currently working on Remedy project though...
Throughout the night, Ilkka Villi, the physical actor for Alan Wake, was on stage as one of the main presenters of the event. If your Finnish is a little rusty, don't worry, while there are sections of the event spoken in Finnish, the parts are translated, allowing for a wider audience to celebrate the achievements.
