If you're on the lookout for new Control merchandise, then you're in luck! There have recently been updates on two new pieces of merchandise. The first is the upcoming book, The Art and Making of Control, which has been a collaboration between Remedy and Future Press. The updates for the book address their new schedule and provides readers with the first glimpse of the final product. The second update is from Laced Records, and if you were unable to snag the vinyl edition of Control before they ran out, then this update is for you.
The Art and Making of Control
In mid-August, Sam Lake (Creative Director on Control) announced a new collaboration with Future Press to bring to life, The Art and Making of Control. The limited-edition book features gorgeous artwork from the game's art team including concept artwork, renders and sketches, as well as a look at Control's game design, VFX work, narrative design, creative direction, world-building and costume design. Originally slated for a "Holiday 2020" release, the publishers have posted a new update, along with presenting Forbes an early edition for review...
UPDATE #1 In a new update, Future Press revealed that "The Art and Making of Control: Our epic collaboration with Remedy has been finished for quite some time now, but the pandemic has made print proofing (and the printing process in general) much slower and more difficult than anticipated. What’s more, the printer needed more time than planned to ensure the books meet our desired quality. The upshot of all this is that the books won’t be ready for pickup at the printer until just before Christmas. Since it’s also being printed in Europe, and shipping over the new year period is also a lot slower than usual, we now expect the books to reach fans in mid- to late-January. We are very sorry for this month delay and thank you in advance for your patience! We’ll provide an update on the exact dates for both the EU and US as soon we can."
UPDATE #2 In early December, Forbes received an early edition of The Art and Making of Control, and interviewed a number of contributors to the project including Jonathan Gagné (Author at Future Press), Minna Etsalo (Senior Graphic Designer at Remedy), Juha Vainio (Executive Producer on Control), Thomas Puha (Communications Director at Remedy), Wil Murray (Editor in Chief of Future Press). You can read their review and interview, HERE.
The collection spans an impressive 400 pages and measures 11" x 8.5", so it's a sizable beast! The limited-edition "premium hardcover book" will be printed on "high-quality art paper with coloured page edges" which has a thread-sewn binding and will be protected by a textured slipcase. While the project is still currently wrapping up, the collection is set to launch by the end of the year and will cost £49.99 / $ 59.99 / € 59.99. You can pre-order the book on Amazon or via the Future Press website HERE.
Laced Records' Control Vinyl LP
Originally announced back in June, the Control vinyl LP sold out incredibly quickly, but Laced Records have recently announced a second run of this elusive product. You can purchase the vinyl on their official site, HERE.
The Control LP features sixteen tracks in total, on the two 180g vinyl LPs, themselves housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve. The design mirrors the game's aesthetics, with a minimal black exterior. "Control Original Game Soundtrack" marks the spine, with the back showing a full playlist (in white) under a black pyramid. Inside, the vinyl LPs (one black, one red) are secured in protective inner-sleeves with a complementary design.
