As part of the studio's continuing twenty-fifth-anniversary celebrations, today Remedy announced that their first title, Death Rally, will now be free on Steam!
The game is playable on Windows (XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8) and Mac (OSX Yosemite 10.10.3) with partial controller support.
The port has a long and interesting history, transforming and evolving a lot over the past decade. Originally launching on MS-DOS in 1996, the game received a Windows port in 2009 by Jari Komppa (who we spoke to back in January of this year to celebrate the studio's anniversary). That version was originally released for free on the Alan Wake Forums and downloadable through Joystiq, but while still playable on modern machines, over the years the paths to redeem the version began to changed and newer fans in the community were unable to follow the same links as before. The version made its way to Steam uploaded in May 2015 by publisher 3D Realms as part of their 3D Realms Anthology Collection, allowing a newer audience to jump on board and check out Remedy's debut adventure. With the studio's milestone this year, Remedy made the switch to make it free again.
And when you feel you can't take it anymore, you can check out the underground market. Spiked bumpers, landmines, rocket fuel or sabotage can provide a way to create some nasty accidents for the competition.
