Remedy Entertainment and 505Games have just announced the highly-anticipated Steam version of Control, alongside a brand new special edition of the title which is set to launch on both current and upcoming XBOX (XBOX One & XBOX Series X) and PlayStation (PlayStation 4 & 5) consoles.
The edition is the Control Ultimate Edition and it will start rolling out on August 27th (a little more about that in a bit!)
First things first, what will the Control Ultimate Edition have?
Well, of course, it will have the main Control game, but it will also feature The Foundation DLC and AWE DLC packs. It will also be the most up-to-date version of the title, featuring updates such as The Expeditions levels, photo mode, and the ability to replay boss fights through the arcade machines (coming with the AWE pack).
So, there's a staggered release date?
Yep, and this is part where you might need to grab your diary. The Control Ultimate Edition will be launching first on Steam on August 27th.
Two weeks later, on September 10th, the digital edition will be available on the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4 and XBOX One. Those are the only concrete dates we've got for the new edition so far.
At the end of 2020, the Control Ultimate Edition will be available to purchase in-store as a physical edition for PlayStation 4 and XBOX One AND will launch digitally on PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X.
If you would like to get the physical edition of the game for the PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X, make sure to keep an eye out as that is due to launch in "early 2021"
Will there be a free update for players who upgrade their console?
Back in mid-June, the studios announced that Control would be coming to next-generation consoles. If you purchased the Control Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 4 or XBOX One, you will unlock the game on your upgraded machine, if you choose to upgrade. For instance, if you buy the edition on PlayStation 4, you will also get the same edition on PlayStation 5. Please note, that the offer only extends to players who have the Control Ultimate Edition.
