In a new blog post for the Control website, Thomas Puha (Communications Director) and Mikael Kasurinen (Game Director), broke down the studio's plans for the year ahead.
The article discusses the anticipated photo-mode feature, which has been a reoccurring topic in media interviews of the past few months. The team has already been hard at work bringing it to life and it's due to be released in "Fall 2019" so expect some information about it soon!
They also reveal a brand new gameplay mode called "Expeditions" due to launch in December. (Anyone else have that Tomb Raider vibe?) The new mode will be free to all players, and will present a combat challenge for gamers looking for more unusual situations and creatures. In the mode, Jesse teams up with Simon Arish (the FBC's Security Chief) as they return order (or some kind of resemblance of it) back to the bureau. In the article, it's presented more as a post-game challenge as it warns that "you will need the best gear and abilities to survive".
Finally, there was more news regarding the two DLC packs which can be bought separately in the Season Pass if you purchased the standard edition of the original game.
The first DLC pack, "The Foundation", will see Jesse explore the history of the Federal Bureau of Control at the request of the mysterious Board. The pack is due to launch "early 2020".
The second DLC pack is called "A.W.E" and interestingly features an Alan Wake's promotional image in its logo. The level is due to launch in mid-2020, and will see Jesse explore the Investigations Sector, a new section of the Oldest House where they store information regarding the Altered World Events.
At present we don't know how much of a tie there will be to the Alan Wake world but with almost a decade of changes at the studio, with key personnel moving to new studios and a shift in atmosphere and approach at the company, it's going to be interesting to see how those have impacted the world. If we do return to Bright Falls, it won't be exactly the one we left, but it will be interesting.
