International Women's Day has been celebrated yearly, in some form or another, since 1909. It found its home on 8th of March the following year, and was adopted by the United Nations in 1975. Originally a political movement, it's now a day to commemorate inclusivity and the achievements of women across the globe, and to reflect on how far we've come and how we have to go in the pursuit of equality.
To celebrate the occasion, Remedy and the community took to Twitter to write about the female developers who have worked on some of our favourite titles, and the heroines that they help create.
It's a privilege to work among so many incredibly talented and skilled women and create great video games together. Here's some of the #womenbehindthegames here at Remedy. Happy #InternationalWomensDay from all of us! pic.twitter.com/QwQJtZfbsm— Remedy Entertainment (@remedygames) March 8, 2018
As it's #InternationalWomensDay, I wanted to give a shoutout to some badass female characters, because there were a lot of them in Quantum Break and I seriously love that. 💙— The Sudden Stop (@TheSuddenStop) March 8, 2018
I grew up following the adventures of Lara Croft, Nancy Drew, and Captain Janeway, my childhood was heavily influenced by their determination and strength. Seeing similar characters in my favourite games means SO MUCH. That stuff matters.— The Sudden Stop (@TheSuddenStop) March 8, 2018
I'll always have a place in my heart for Beth. She has that admirable strength both mentally and physically, and an unfaltering determination, that no matter the obstacle she will just keep going. Played awesomely by @TheCourtneyHope. pic.twitter.com/mFUB9BeC9c— The Sudden Stop (@TheSuddenStop) March 8, 2018
I’m so glad to hear that!:) she has a special place in my heart as well ❤️— Courtney Hope (@TheCourtneyHope) March 8, 2018
As much as I love the story & cast of Quantum Break, IMO Beth was easily the best character @TheCourtneyHope did a incredible job. I wish Quantum Break continued as a web-series or Comic. Great world @remedygames built. PS if you look it Beth can be viewed as the lead character.— Devon Clarke (@DClarke_XV) March 8, 2018
Beth is awesome... go girl! https://t.co/7dfSPhIYu1— Nuvision Media PR (@NuvisionMediaPR) March 12, 2018
Sofia Amaral, played by the wonderful @JacquiPinol, is honestly one of my favourite characters. Sofia holds a pretty prominent position in Monarch's chronon research division and remains unwavered when defending her research or results. She knows she's right. pic.twitter.com/GhxjfEotqp— The Sudden Stop (@TheSuddenStop) March 8, 2018
And finally, the badass Amy Ferrero played by @AmeliaRBlaire. Amy is so sassy and resilient that even when threatened she's not afraid to tell Monarch exactly what she thinks. Amelia plays the role so staggeringly well. pic.twitter.com/7BARqHR7Y4— The Sudden Stop (@TheSuddenStop) March 8, 2018
And a shoutout to all the awesome female devs at Remedy, working on our favourite games or ensuring the studio keeps running smoothly, including @cynixy, @silliet, @Brooke_Maggs, @vidaisonline, @MissGameAudio, @AngelMcCoy, @terhenel, @ObergMattila and many more. ❤️— The Sudden Stop (@TheSuddenStop) March 8, 2018
